Ok, so a few days ago I went to the library and got 2 books. One is an intro to environmental engineering which focuses a lot on water. The other is geotechnical engineering, focusing on soils and rocks. I started with the environmental book and it just overwhelmed me. It was interesting, but not at this level. But, I have to admit, every time I look at the geotechnical book, I get excited! lol Now, there’s the chance that it’s because I haven’t actually tried to read it, but I think there’s more to it. I think that, while I value water and it’s quality, it’s not my field of choice. But soil and rocks? Hell yeah! I love rocks and dirt. I really should have tried to stick with geology, but that damn paleo class would have kicked my ass! It’ll be fun to do when I’m older. Or, if I’m really lucky, I’ll find a job that allows me to take classes from time to time. Woohoo!
So, yesterday I went to a job fair. It sucked. Only 3 companies in Austin. One makes 3d digital holograms which look damn cool. The only thing open that I could do is basically line production which pays decent but is super detail oriented. I’m not sure I would be good at it, especially when tired. The other two didn’t have anything I was qualified for. LCRA is mostly water, and the other was a renewable energy resource place that required a lot of travel to find new wind farm sites. Travel is out of the question with Carrie right now.
One good thing is I learned more about this Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Apparently you just take a fundamentals of engineering test, which is the stuff I learned in my undergrad physics classes with the exception of statics. So, I’m going to get a review book and start studying so I can take that. It will make the job hunt in the future. So, we’ll see where it leads.
But give me rocks! I want rocks! Hey, it’s a bit of clarity. Perhaps the clarity I needed in the midst of too much confusion once again.
