Yesterday was an interesting day. In the morning I was sitting around eating my cereal, and out of the blue I was ‘told’ to go to the dry creek. Well, since I wasn’t dressed or showered yet, I put the message off. I’m still not sure if it was time sensitive, but probably a bit.
After Carrie woke up I got myself down to the creek, trying to beat the incoming storms. When I got down to the creek itself, I decided to walk upstream a bit. Almost immediately I was stalked by mosquitos, which I wasn’t too pleased about. I gave up rather quickly, and went downstream to the area I normally go to. The bugs weren’t quite as bad as long as I kept moving. I saw a few wierd articles of clothing that look like they were just left there. First a green stocking hat, then a shirt and shorts! Those were sitting next to a few different water bottles, so it looks like there was a group there at some point. But why leave clothes behind? Very odd to me.
I started to walk back to the trail when I saw a real neat rock, not normally scene among the limestone and flint. It’s very dark, and made of little tiny balls. I walked a little farther and found another piece, but this was just one solid piece, with another piece underneath that was completely smooth. All appear to be the same material, but completely different forms. Very interesting. Then I walked up the trail, deciding to go a bit out of the way before heading back so I could enjoy the area. Halfway up, which is only 10 steps maybe, the wind kicked up like crazy. I decided to keep walking, even though it freaked me out a bit. Sudden weather changes make me a bit uneasy and excited all a the same time.
Here’s where it gets wierd. I got to the top, and stopped to look at a bush that had a sign by it. Then, next thing I know, something hits me in the head! A branch about a foot long and an inch in diameter fell from the tree and broke on my head! That stunned me, and freaked me out a bit. Now I’m looking at my path out, which is solid trees, and hearing all of them creak under the influence of the wind. I’m going to be killed by these trees! So I start walking more quickly out, until I happened to look up. There to my left were two deer. We stared at each other for a while, until I took out my phone to take a picture. Apparently deer are camera shy, as they took off. Then I decided I would minimize my chances of being hit by running until the clearing. I stopped for a bit to relax, and then walked to my car. No more trees attacked me, but I had a bit of a headache from the branch.
I’m guessing that had I gone in the earlier afternoon, the bugs wouldn’t have been as much of an issue. I’ll try to listen better next time. I think the important thing to take away from this was to feed my soul before I stressed out on work. I’ll try to do this more often, because work is certainly stressing me out. I’m short tempered and easily frustrated lately, which only happened once I had actual work to do. I think it was just too much stress, added to the other things I’m dealing with at home. So much to learn…
