Gold Star Lesbian!

Tonight I learned a new term on the L word - a gold star lesbian.  What is it, you may ask?  It’s a person who’s never slept with the opposite gender.  Aha!  I’m a freakin gold star, how cool is that!  *Flashes back to getting gold stars in grade school*  Hehehe, I thought it was cute.  Not just because Shane and Carmen are both gold stars, but because other’s tried to jump in.  Jenny wanted to be a gold star, even though she’s slept with men, so she was the Jewish star.  And Helena only slept with boys in boarding school who were effeminate, so she’s a spoiled star.  Oh, and then there’s the lone stars, those that slept with only one person their whole life.  Shane couldn’t even imagine that, which was cute. 

But I can’t either.  I mean, sure, that’s what I was taught growing up, that you only have sex with the person you marry, which would make lone stars the only way to go (according to the church) but that sounds so…unfulfilling.  I mean, it’s not like I slept around much, but the people I have had sex with were important people in my life.  And it was a stronger connection than we would have had otherwise.  I guess it’s kind of hard to explain without context and all that, but it’s not important.  I just don’t think people should make a big deal about sex.  It’s an activity that has so many purposes from the spiritual to pure fun.  You of course need to be careful and smart, but other than that, if it’s a situation you feel is appropriate for you, then why not?  As long as everyone is consentual then I see no problems.  Yes, I know this will be a viewpoint that’s put to the test when we have kids, but I really believe it and will just have to remind myself that my kids are not an exception to my beliefs.  Besides, if you teach your children to respect themselves you really shouldn’t have to worry.  And if they get pregnant, then it was meant to be.  Just roll with it. 

 

hahaha, just imagining all the people who would freak out after reading that…oh well!  I mean, if all these rules and stigmas we attach to sex haven’t scared people away from it, then nothing will.  Because in the end, people are free creatures and will do what is in their best interest.  You can’t control everyone else…it’s impossible.  Just another example for ya.
