You're kidding right? Banning a single species of dog is consitutional? Insane. The worst part is the reason it's upheld is that the State Attorney's General didn't provide new evidence that pitbulls are just like any other dog. Is there really a lack of studies that document that pit bulls are not inherenlty more violent than other breeds? That's pathetic. I've met many pit bulls, who were the sweetest dogs you could meet. They were treated well by their owners, and so there were no problems. The problems come in when people train them to be mean and fight. That's not the dog's fault. Stick any dog in a cage, mistreat it, and it will come out mean. That's not an inherent pit bull trait.
Why do we continue to write laws based on prejudice and lies? And when will we learn that zero tolerance is the stupidest thing you could ever include in law enforcement? This is not going to stop dog maulings…just pit bull maulings. What will happen the next time someone is attacked by a dog? Will they outlaw mutts? All dogs? Come on!!!!!! This is insane!
I feel so deeply for the owners and good dogs out there. They're all losing their families, over ignorance and prejudice. It's sad. It's too bad all these people can't just move out of Denver, see how the city likes that!

I think that it’s less to do with “mean” and more to do with “ability to cause damage”. When a normal dog bites, they release. When a pitbull bites, their instincts tend to kick in and their jaw locks down, and a pitbull’s jaw is able to exert enough pressure to break bones. Big bones. And it’s extremely hard to pry open (unless you’ve got a break-stick.)
But I agree that it’s absurd to ban a breed. Properly trained and loved, pitbulls are some of the sweetest goofiest things. Same with Rottweilers, dobermans, and shepherds–other dogs with “violent” associations.

Hey concerned,
could you name the breed responsible for tearing the face out of the French lady leading to the world’s first face transplant? Lab retriever–that’s right. Are you going to want to ban those too???

Exactly. You address the problem of bad owners, and if an individual dog is dangerous, you deal with that. You don’t ban an entire breed of dog just because of a few poorly trained ones.
I’ve spent a lot of time with some amazing pit bulls. They were the sweetest dogs. I’ll be damned if some reactionaries are going to say they should be put to sleep when they are properly trained and perfectly harmless.
I would also add, I knew a person who was crippled by a miniature poodle that bit him in the achilles tendon. Shall we ban miniature poodles? Anyone else ever notice that many small dogs are far more agressive than the larger dogs we like to blame?

wow ppl who support the ban are such idiots. violence is not genetic. and pit bulls arent the only ones with lock jaws. i had my pitty since she was 6 weeks old. shes 10 and a half years old now. we got her when my brother was one, and he used to pull her tail and jump on her all the time. my dog is the best when it comes to kids. u cant sit there and tell me that every pitbull has intention to kill. the only reason that pitbulls are violent is because of the dumbass gang members that put these dogs into dog fighting. if u get treated like shit, obviously ur gonna want to rebel against ur owner. it doesnt apply to all pitbulls. im sure that if a poodle was put under the same circumstances, it would probably want to rip your head off too.

No one loves dogs as much as I do. I lived in Denver in 1985 and 1986, and when I was there, there were 3 deaths contributing to the attack of this breed of canine (at least). I’d like for those who left the above comments to say those words to those familys who lost someone dear to them. There are a few breed of dogs I would like to see removed from the face of the earth. This breed is number one on the list. Sorry for the owners of Pit Bulls, but I have seen even the mellowest of this breed turn on their masters. Maybe not all will, but enough to cause resentment from the majority of the population.
